Tu-2's first visit of Lhasa, Tibet, summer of 1987

My first week of exploring the Lhasa area is rich and inspiring. My guide is a young Chinese artist who works at People Publishing Co. An amazing painter himself, he encourages me to visit Yao-Wang Shan (Medicine King Hill). Located at pristine Chakpori Hill, Lhasa, I find no tourists except Tibetan pilgrims. My guide also convinces me to do a photography book. The thousand images of Buddha in Chakpori Hill, dating back to the 7th Century, stun me. I visit it few times and shoot in different light. Among the bank of images I take, this is one of them.

Tu-2's Guatemala Journey, the day of parade at the town called Cabulco, summer 1989.

At the final location of the ducumentary we spent a couple days visiting the little town called Cabulco where the victim's family lives. A Catholic parade unfolded and the street
in front of town church was the main theatre for all kinds of activities. My lens was busy capturing the colorful people and events

Hidden Scars: Tu-2's Journey to Guatemala, 1989

In his journey to Guatemala, Tu-2 was the cinematographer as part of a team producing a documentary film about the survival of a political prisoner and torture victicm. The goal of the team was to deliver news to the man's family that he had not been killed and images shot were
people and places along the way to bringing happy news.

We arrived this beautiful town called Salama, three hours north of Guatemala City in early afternoon. While we took a break at this court yard in front of town church I saw this intricate woman surrounded by her grandchildren under the shade of a big tree, watching kids playing soccer. Grace Barne, the director asked her in spanish that if we could share the shade with her. She nodded her head with gentle smile. At that moment I smiled back and hinted if I could take a picture of her and she nodded. Afterward Grace asked her" how old is she"? One of her grandchild answered "106 years old"

Light showering on Norbulinka, the summer palace of Dalai Lama.

I took this picture on the day of Washing Festival. The festival takes place during the beginning of the seventh month ( approximately early September ) and lasts about a week. Everyone in Lhasa goes to river to wash themselves and their clothes. According to a legend, bathing like this can cure sickness of any description.
At the Norbulinka, the Palace of Dalai Lama, surrounded by a holy river were camped fully by the local residents. I cruised in and out between the river bank and court yards capturing the spirit of festivity.
